Welcome to Dream Vacations, a lifestyle column on travelling to amazing destinations with practical advice and my revelations about locales from years of personal experience. If you are a fan of choice and quality resort accommodations, then this should be welcome news. Here is a preview of the intended Maui Bay Villas by Hilton Grand Vacations (HGV) under construction with first occupancy by June 2021. The first HGV in Maui, it’ll offer Dream Vacation Clients yet another opportunity to enjoy Maui, Hawaii.
Kihei, Maui
First, you may not be familiar with Kihei, so here are some fast facts. First, it is closer to Kahului airport, being only a 20-minute drive, instead of the almost 45-minute drive to Ka’anapali. Kihei is also a little less busy than Lahaina and Ka’anapali as it is a smaller populated centre on Maui, only having 20,000 people. Kihei being more centrally located on the western coast, gives you potentially a better base for visiting other parts of the island such as the Road to Hana, Wailea and Kapalua in the north.
The Property
The property itself is not a new development. It was the site of the Maui Lu Resort.
However, the Maui Bay Villas Resort by HGV will be an expansion of that property built in four phases with the first open to visitors by June 2021, if all goes to plan. The new plan for the resort has already received all necessary planning approvals and has actually started the construction process.
The new property will include 388 units of one-, two-, and three-bedroom units in a low-density arrangement of 10 different low-rise buildings with a central clubhouse. It will also include 740 feet of ocean front views of Maalaea Bay. There is a road that separates the beach and the resort, so it will not be an ocean front property. The suites average 962 square feet and the planned amenities include:
- Super pool with pool bar
- Oceanfront beach club
- 15 acres of open-lawn recreation space
- Large clubhouse with restaurant
- Fitness Centre
- Grab and go Marketplace
The initial phase will only include 131 of the 388 units, but we look forward to providing these accommodations to our clients from the very beginning, so be sure to look for this exclusive property next year.
Construction Concerns?
There have been reports of delays for the resort due to human bone fragments found on the site. However, Hilton is taking all measures to be respectful to the local community, the findings and its construction timeline. Although archeological monitoring was not part of their requirements, but they have done so in good faith with local indigenous communities. The fragments are being kept secure and are under investigation for analysis and eventual removal in a respectful manner according to local tradition if asked.
The vacationer community for Hawaii is excited another quality resort opportunity is available for the south-west shore giving another great option to enjoy the beauty that is Maui, Hawaii.
When the resort launches, we’ll be sure to post a follow up blog highlighting the property. In the meantime find the best resorts in Hawaii on our home page.
